Seattle / Tacoma
Seattle / Tacoma Washington
Seattle is an idea more than it is a geographic location. It’s a concept based on the revolutionary idea that a tech industry and a Space Needle are a municipality’s only true needs. The largest city in Washington State, Seattle is home to the haunted Thornewood Castle (closer to Tacoma), the poltergeist-riddled Kells Pub, and a vast series of underground tunnels through mysterious parts of the city now buried six feet under.
Our trip to Washington State started with the flight to Seattle and then the long drive from Seattle/Tacoma Airport to Lakewood, Washington about 30 mins away.
After a long day of travel, We arrived at the majestic Thornewood Castle. Its a gorgeous lakeside private estate that hosts weddings and events, boasting of many suites for one to stay overnight. Which we did….and its HAUNTED. the first night we stayed, we had the entire mansion to ourselves. The WHOLE place. The host didn’t even stay in the building, staying in a building separate from the main house. We stayed in Anna’s Suite which is purported to be haunted by the lady of the house, Anna Thorne. It was quite disconcerting for Cindy as the energy was wild! She felt watched every minute we were in our suite. Despite this, she slept, Scott on the other hand had otherworldly happenings throughout the night. Watch the video to find out. We did experience lights flickering and Cindy spied shadows out of the side of her eyes. Visit their website to get a glimps of the castle’s beauty (Thornwood Castle). It is also where they filmed Steven King’s, Rose Red, so it may look familiar! It’s very much worth a visit. And if you can get married there, even better! - It’s very romantical.
Our first full day we drove from Lakewood, WA, to Tacoma (15 min drive) Where we visited:
Old City Hall - 625 Commerce St. Tacoma Wa. 98403
Elks Temple (Formerly Elks Lodge) - 565 Broadway Tacoma Wa. 98402
B-Sharp Coffee House (Npw defunct) Formerly the News Tribune Office (Defunct too) - 706 Opera Alley Court C. Tacoma WA
The next day we checked out of Thornwood Castle and drove from Lakewood to Snohomish, about an hour drive, to have lunch at the
Oxford Saloon - 913 1st St. Snohomish WA 98290
We were willing to take the drive because we really wanted to visit the Oxford Saloon as its famous for its ghosts and we heard they embrace their paranormal reputation. We were on holiday so why not?! This is what we do! We also got to experience the quaint town of Snohomish, is a historic town which boasts of cute shops, coffee houses, antique shops, and the most amazing desserts! We had the most delicious Pumpkin Cream pie at the Snohomish Pie Co. Cindy still dreams about that slice of pie. Someday she will have another try! Overall, Snohomish was well worth the drive. We especially love doing Ghost Tourist because we get to see places and try things that we would never do had it not been for this project and Snohomish is one of those places that turned out to be a very pleasant surprise!
Snohomish Pie Co. - 915 1st St Snohomish, WA 98290 - GO HAVE SOME PIE HERE!!!!
After our visit in Snohomish, we drove about 50 minuetes South West to Seattle and checked into The Mayflower Park Hotel.
The Mayflower Park Hotel, built in 1927, is in the heart of Seattle and boasts of at least 2 ghosts. We enjoyed our stay as the hotel is gorgeous! It is also centrally located and we were able to walk to all other Seattle haunts from the hotel. We definitely did not need a car while in Seattle.
The Mayflower Park Hotel - 405 Olive Way Seattle, WA 98101
We took a ghost tour of Seattle that evening to get spooky acquainted with the city before venturing on our own the other evenings. Our ghost host was quite knowledgeable and we were lucky to have a small group. Our tour was with US Ghost Adventures and we have had good experiences with this company. You can click on the link to purchase tickets. They have options for tours in multiple cities. They even have options for overnight stays in haunted locations, which we cannot vouch for as we have not tried that option.
Our last full day was spent in Seattle walking around and getting to know the city.
We walked to the iconic Pikes Place Market and did a little bit of shopping. We picked up some coffee at Ghost Alley Espresso (we HAD to!) walked some more and people watched, one of our favorite things to do! We visited the Gum Wall by day, which was even more disgusting than seeing it at night during our Ghost Tour.
For lunch we went to Kells Irish Pub. The pub had just opened and it was not in full swing, but we got the gist of what we could expect in the evenings. It seemed very authentic. We even snuck up to the second floor where the hauntings are said to occur. We are sure Kell’s is an exciting venue at night.
That evening we took the Underground Tour which was phenomenal! We believe there is only one company giving tours: Bill Spiedle’s Underground Tours. Click on the link to buy tickets. We would recommend you buy tickets ahead of time as the tours fill up. You do not want to miss this tour.
The Underground tour includes a discount to the bar and restaurant cross the street; Merchants Cafe and Saloon. This place is also HAUNTED and more recently opened some of the rooms upstairs as an AirBnB! Make sure you make time to go into Merchants Cafe and Saloon. They embrace their ghosts and you can feel the energy upon entering the place! You can click the link and read their ghost stories on their website!
The following day we leave bright and early for a full day of travel back home.
